Selena Gomez dethroned Kylie Jenner on Instagram, then announced another social media hiatus
Kylie Jenner was the most followed woman on Instagram until Selena Gomez returned to the social media platform and quickly grabbed the headlines.
Gomez was previously the most followed woman on Instagram but left the social media platform for a while only to come back stronger than ever. Both women have nearly 400 million followers as of Thursday.
Gomez recently posted a photo of herself sipping a drink, captioning it, "I deleted it once because I thought it was too much but eh."
The singer explained to Vanity Fair that she deleted Instagram from her phone and her team's posts for her because she found it toxic.
"People can call me ugly or stupid and whatever I am. But these people know the details," he told the publication. “They write paragraphs that are so specific and meaningful. I used to cry constantly. I had constant anxiety. I couldn't anymore. It was a waste of my time.”
He continued: “The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it a little less hostile. There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans and how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually, it's filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. What I do is I send them to my assistant who posts them. As far as comments go, my team will put together some encouraging things.”
It's been nothing but love for Gomez with lots of positive comments on her recent post. One fan wrote, “Wow! Thank God it's back."
Later on Thursday, Gomez announced that she was taking another break from social media via a TikTok Live video.
