The Pakistani women's education activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner made her Academy Award debut tonight alongside her husband Asr Malik.
Yousafzai's entourage for the night was as lavish as the champagne-gold carpet at the Dolby Theatre. She wore a silver sequined gown by Ralph Lauren with a hood, long sleeves and a slit detail on one side of the waist. She sported only a gold ring with a large silver diamond ring and a large emerald from Santi Jewels and wore minimal makeup and added a pop of color with a bright red lip.
Malik, next to him, looked dapper in a classic black suit, white shirt, black bow tie and black loafers.
Yousafzai arrived at the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles after being invited to the second annual South Asian Excellence Pre-Oscar Celebration at Paramount Pictures Studios last week. She also attended the Oscar nominees luncheon in February (where she was photographed chatting with Tom Cruise). That's because activist and author Joshua Seftel is an executive producer on the short film Stranger at the Gate , which is nominated tonight in the Best Documentary Short Film category.
The 29-minute film tells the story of a former US Marine, originally from Indiana, who goes to war for his country and is deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Once he returned home after the war, he suffered from PTSD and became an Islamophobe.
"People who can change - and are willing to change themselves - are our best hope for a better world. I'm so proud of @strangratthegate and everyone who made it. Please share our film with your friends and family." Yousafzai wrote in an Instagram post last week.
